We recently opened the doors to our Newcastle studio for a morning of conversation, exploration, and thoughtful design. Welcoming early-career architects, designers, and anyone passionate about the spaces we live, work, and play in, the event invited guests to take a closer look at how inclusive design shapes our work at GT3.
Held at John Dobson House, the open studio offered a relaxed and informal setting to meet the team and engage with our Inclusive Design Research & Development Series. Visitors were encouraged to drop in, enjoy a coffee, and explore the space at their own pace, discovering how inclusive thinking informs our approach to architecture.
Small Moments, Lasting Impact
Throughout the studio, visitors discovered our ‘Little Moments’, subtle design cues marked by small orange circles on the walls. These touches, while easy to miss at first glance, embody our belief that even the smallest decisions can create meaningful and lasting change. They represent our commitment to designing spaces that are not only functional, but welcoming, human, and kind.
Meet the Team, Explore the Process
To bring our design thinking to life, we created four interactive zones across the studio:
Coffee with Katie
In the kitchen, surrounded by snacks and fresh brews, our Head of Marketing shared a brief history of GT3 and our home at John Dobson House.
Our Projects with Simon
In The Oxford, Simon from our sport and leisure team talked through some of the projects we’ve delivered and the impact they’ve had within their communities.
Our Research with Judith
In The Gallery, Judith walked guests through our inclusive design research. Flashcards helped visitors see the world through different lenses, encouraging conversations around empathy and equity in design.
Our People and Process with Kat
Upstairs, Kat offered a closer look at how we deliver architectural projects and how inclusive thinking plays a role at every stage, from early concepts to final handover.
Inclusive by Design
We believe good design goes beyond how something looks. It is about how it feels, how it functions, and how it supports the people who use it. This open studio was a chance to reflect on that, to share ideas, challenge assumptions, and continue learning.
Thank you to everyone who joined us. We loved having you here.
