A true community hub, breaking down barriers to entry into activity.

We were appointed by Willmott Dixon, following engagement with Wakefield Borough Council, to develop a design for the Five Towns Leisure and Wellbeing Hub.

The new leisure Centre will be a community based hub, designed to meet the needs of the residents living within the Five Towns District and to make the most of its location within Pontefract Park. We engaged with a number of organisations, such as Dementia UK, to inform our design and to ensure that the centre would be a true community hub able to meet the needs of all that it serves.

The material for this scheme has been chosen to help to blend the building into its park setting, whilst maintaining a contemporary feel. This is further supported by an ‘inside out’ approach to blur the boundary between the interior and exterior to firmly plant the new hub as an extension of the park.
