Project Overview
- Project: Cranleigh Leisure Centre
- Client: Waverley Borough Council
- Construction Value: £31.1m
- Status: In-progress
- Location: Surrey
The current centre, now more than 55 years old, has long exceeded its life expectancy and will be demolished once the new facility is complete. The new centre, designed to meet rigorous Passivhaus standards, aims to use 60% less energy per square metre than the existing building. If successful, it will become only the fourth leisure centre in the UK to achieve Passivhaus accreditation, with the council targeting a 75% reduction in operational carbon emissions.
Community input has been vital to the design of Cranleigh’s new leisure centre, with over 800 survey responses and 200 attendees at public events helping shape the proposals. Targeting Passivhaus accreditation, the centre dramatically reduces energy use while enhancing comfort, air quality, and swimming conditions through advanced microfiltration technology. Inspired by the village’s roofscape and high street character, the design is a contemporary yet respectful addition to the local heritage. As Lead Designer, we’re proud to be working with Waverley Borough Council to deliver a transformative facility featuring a 25-metre pool, teaching pool with moveable floor, gym, studios, spin and health suites, soft play, and a community café.
Our work embraces Passivhaus principles and sustainable strategies to reduce environmental impact while enhancing comfort and wellbeing.
