Moss Side Leisure Centre opened this month following extensive work to improve its swimming pools, sports halls and squash courts and the inclusion of a new extension to the existing gym which has doubled in size. The extended gym now includes weights, cardio, strength and conditioning facilities, a main pool and learner pool, plus viewing area, “Changing Places” accessible changing rooms, three squash courts, two sports halls, an exercise studio, community meeting room and a health suite, including sauna and steam room. The centre also houses the popular Hulme High Street Library.
The building’s electrical and mechanical infrastructure, heating, energy systems and swimming pool circulation and filtration systems have all been replaced – significantly reducing the building’s carbon emissions and improving its energy efficiency.
The centre was opened to applause after an opening speech which recognised that the success of the project was as a result of a collaborative ethos and genuine team approach.
