Work starts at Princes Parade Leisure Centre.

Following the appointment of BAM Construction, we’re delighted that preparatory work for Princes Parade Leisure Centre, will begin on site this month.

Construction of the Leisure Centre should commence on site during the first quarter of 2022.

GT3 Architects were tasked with breathing new life into a former contaminated and underused site; Princes Parade Leisure centre is a wet and dry facility on the south coast overlooking the English Channel at Hythe near Folkestone. It houses a 6 lane 25m main pool and a learner pool with a 90-station fitness suite and studios including a dedicated spin studio. This is all supported by a large café, offering views into the pool hall and out over the coast.

The project sits on a newly pedestrianised promenade with landscaped public realm and a children’s play area and is also adjacent to a listed Royal Military Canal.

The design for the scheme takes it references from Martello Towers that are found on the south coast, these towers were fortified structures with panoramic viewing platforms. The centre features a heavy stone gabion base with a lightweight, timber clad, cantilevering structure at first floor. The concept even runs in the structure which is cast concrete to the ground floor allowing for exposed flat slabs with a steel frame to first floor.
